Perfectly Cooked Rice
Fluffy, separate basmati rice made with a simple absorption method. A dependable side dish that’s ready for curries, stews and family dinners.

Ingredients
- 300g basmati rice
- 550ml water
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Put the rice in a fine sieve and rinse under cold running water for 1–2 minutes, gently moving the grains, until the water runs almost clear. Drain well.
- Bring the water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan over high heat. Add the drained rice and stir once to stop the grains sticking together.
- Let the water return to a gentle simmer, then immediately reduce the heat to low and cover with a tight-fitting lid. Cook for 12 minutes without lifting the lid—the water should be absorbed and small steam holes should appear across the rice.
- Remove the pan from the heat and leave it covered for 10 minutes. This resting time lets the grains finish steaming without becoming soggy.
- Lift the lid and gently fluff the rice with a fork, separating the grains without crushing them. Taste and adjust the salt before serving.
